Digital Reasoning Expands Partner Network
July 11, 2012
You may remember Digital Reasoning for the dough they received last year for a big data intelligence push. Well it looks like the Tennessee based tech company is making new partnerships to continue its expansion into the big data marketplace. Digital Reasoning recently posted new press release on their Web site entitled “Digital Reasoning Teams with Carahsoft to Extend Presence in Government Market.”
According to the release, Digital Reasoning, a leader in unstructured data analytics, has forged a new partnership with government IT solutions provider Carahsoft Technology Corp. Together, the two companies will be adding proactive sales and marketing support to Digital Reasoning’s flagship product Synthesys. Synthesys uses human like reasoning algorithms to automatically isolate critical information – such as risks, opportunities, and anomalies – buried in massive amounts of unstructured data.
Michael Shrader, vice president of Intelligence and Innovative Solutions at Carahsoft, said of the partnership:
“Digital Reasoning provides an innovative approach to tackling the challenge of big data analytics. Over the past decade its software has been used in government agencies to uncover security threats and enable intelligence analysts to find and act on critical relationships in big data. We are pleased to add Digital Reasoning to our roster of intelligence solutions available to our government customers, partners and resellers.”
This partnership is sure to support the advancement of technological innovation that is so integral to maintaining strong defense intelligence sectors of our country.

Kroll Overhauls Management
July 9, 2012
It is not unusual for a corporation to occasionally replace a few executives, but Altegrity’s Kroll just had a major personnel overhaul all within twenty days. We’re not sure what motivated this type of turnover in corporate management, but the press releases on Altegrity’s Web site announce all three of the new additions with glowing recommendations.
- May 30th was the beginning and brought, “Kroll Factual Data names Jennifer Byers Vice President, Product Development”, acknowledging her as bringing a wealth of experience in all aspects of deploying technical business solutions and applications.
- The next release followed shortly thereafter on June 5thwith, “Kroll Factual Data names Mike Mauseth Senior Vice President, Product Development” who will not only head the product development, but will also manage channels, alliances, marketing and analytics.
- The latest announcement came on June 19th in regards to “Kroll Factual Data names Michael Larkin Vice President, Risk Management”. The new VP of Risk Management has 22 year of vast experience in the industry and will be overseeing all initiatives and new business opportunities.
Kroll Advisory Solutions is a global leader in risk mitigation and response. The company asserts:
“Kroll delivers a wide range of solutions that span investigations, due diligence, compliance, cyber security and physical security. Clients partner with Kroll Advisory Solutions for the highest-value intelligence and insight to drive the most confident decisions about protecting their companies, assets and people.”
It appears Altegrity Kroll perceived the need for a personnel overhaul.

Oracle Positions RightNow Technology
July 7, 2012
Since Oracle bought RightNow Technologies last October, we’ve been wondering how their customer-service-cloud technology will be positioned under new management. Oracle’s blog gives us some insight in the post, “Oracle RightNow CX for Good Customer Experiences.” Besides detailing the uses of RightNow as they fit within the larger Oracle universe, the article lists Oracle University classes that can get users up to speed on the software.
Blogger Andreea Vaduva describes four tools available in the customer relations suite: the Knowledge Authoring tool; the Oracle RightNow Customer Portal; the Contact Centre Experience Designer; and Oracle RightNow access points. See the write up for details on each. She notes that marketing, survey creation and tracking, and sales tools are also included. Regarding the analytics tool, Vaduva enthuses:
“Cue Oracle RightNow Analytics – fully integrated across the entire platform – Service, Marketing and Sales – there are in excess of 800 standard reports. If this were not enough, a large proportion of the database has been made available via the administration console, allowing users without any prior database experience to write their own reports, format them and schedule them for e-mail delivery to a distribution list. It handles the complexities of table joins, and allows for the manipulation of data with ease.”
It sounds like Oracle is making good use of its purchase. RightNow Technologies was founded in 1997 in Bozeman, Montana. No stranger to the acquisition game, the smaller company snapped up HiveLive in 2009, and Q-go in 2011.

Useful Resource Courtesy of Autonomy
July 4, 2012
Autonomy stars in its own slide show explaining big data, we learn in eWeek’s “Enterprise Applications: How Autonomy’s Private Cloud Tackles Big Data, Analytics.” The slide show is reproduced in the article, and it does a good job of breaking down the increasingly influential phenomenon, starting with the basics. For example, the introductory slide explains:
“Big data is comprised of structured data, which is data that fits cleanly into spreadsheets and databases, and unstructured data, which is human-generated information . . . . Unstructured ‘diverse data’ now makes up more than 90 percent of the world’s data, and it is the fastest-growing form of information. Just as importantly, this ‘human information’ is where the interesting things happen. This is where customers share their experiences with a brand and indicate their buying preferences. This is where teams of corporate lawyers look to find evidence of fraud and compliance violations.”
Clear and succinct—gotta love it. The slides contains some helpful graphics, too, and include comparisons to help wrap one’s head around the colossal numbers involved. It also talks up Autonomy’s big-data expertise, but that is to be expected. I would recommend it as a resource for explaining the matter to the uninitiated or confused.
Autonomy, founded in 1996 and now owned by HP, offers a full range of cloud-based solutions that use Autonomy’s IDOL to tame mind-boggling amounts of unstructured data. The technology grew from research originally performed at Cambridge University, and now serves prominent public and private organizations around the globe.
