AI Slop Is Conquering Video Platforms

Here’s a surprising fact that is not surprising, according to 9 To 5 Mac: “60% Of TikTok Videos Are AI Slop; 21% Of YouTube Ones.” The video editing platform was surveyed and the amount of AI slop being distributed online is ghastly and will continue to grow. The study reviewed and analyzed over 10,000 TikTOk videos and discovered:
“Nearly six out of every ten videos TikTok serves to a brand-new account are AI-generated junk. That is the central finding of a report published by video editing platform Kapwing, which analysed 10,742 TikTok videos across 20 popular categories and separately examined the first 500 videos shown on the For You page of a freshly created account.”
Gross.
Adults are lucky however, because 97 out of 100 kids videos were AI slop in the hashtag CartoonKids. It is worse in other hashtags: 83% in #babysong and #cartoon, 79% in #forkid. The percentages are probably higher because the study only returned results that are “described as ‘clearly AI-generated scripts and voiceovers.’
The platforms can be trained to show less AI garbage based on viewing history.
Let’s remember that these facts are on the United States’s version of TikTok and YouTube. Is the same thing happening on the Chinese version of TikTok which is notorious for having better, healthier content for kids? What about the AI slop of bytedance for Chinese adults? We don’t know, but it begs investigating, especially the topics.
