Hey, Google, Some Folks Do Not Like Gemini

XDA Developers wrote a less than nice article about Google’s new limit usages for Gemini: “Google’s Controversial AI Changes Are The Reason Why Gemini Isn’t Worth Recommending Anymore.” Google’s new limitations are set at five -hour usage caps. Here’s some more detail:

“Similar to a lot of AI tools, Gemini too now has five-hour limits and weekly usage limits. You’ll first hit the five-hour limit, after which you’ll need to wait for it to reset before you can continue. Each five-hour window you max out also counts against your weekly cap. So, if you have a couple of days of heavy usage back-to-back, you can easily find yourself locked out of Gemini for the rest of the week with nothing but Google’s "you’ve hit the limit" message to accompany you.”

Anthropic was the first company to do this with Claude in August 2025. Google also removed AI Pro subscriber credits and they are now called an “overage mechanism.” Credits are not included in the AI Pro subscription anymore and must be purchased separately.

Also Google did with Gemini what Microsoft did with Copilot: putting it everywhere it didn’t belong. Claude and ChatGPT require subscriptions to get the best features, but these AI systems may be better options. The write up’s author says:

“I can’t really say the same about Gemini. The models are solid, but they aren’t standouts, and the subscription perks Google keeps pushing are mostly the AI-in-every-app bolt-ons we just talked about, plus slightly higher limits on a system the company has been quietly tightening anyway.”

I would like to point out that [a] Google is the owner of search for most online users, [b] Google has the online advertising money machine, [c] Google has money, and [d] Google has the data. For those who don’t like Gemini, yeah, okay.
