green-dino_thumb_thumb[3]Another dinobaby post. No AI unless it is an image. This dinobaby is not Grandma Moses, just Grandpa Arnold.

When it comes to AI, we don’t hear much regarding the culture surrounding the industry. As part of the tech industry, it is male-dominated so it has the boys club atmosphere. An aspect of that world is immaturity in the manner of teenage boys. Peta Pixel examines the AI culture in the article: “The Sora Embarrassment is a Reflection of OpenAI’s Juvenile Culture.”

Remember Sora? It was a AI video app that allowed people to make videos, some of them including Mickey Mouse. It was a novelty then it wore off faster than MySpace. Sam Altman closed down Sora after it only made OpenAI $1.4 million on top of the $15 million/day it cost. His behavior about Sora and AI in general is underwhelming-ly immature.

He uploaded his likeness to Sora so users could make cat videos of him stealing drawings from Studio Ghibli.

Meanwhile Google was the adult in the room, because it aimed its AI industrial complex at markets advertisers will want to reach. The article says:

“But with the failure of Sora, Google Veo’s viability is also questionable. If OpenAI was spending $15 million a day on Sora, then Google is likely spending something similar on its AI video generator. Are they making anything close to that back? I suspect not, which begs the question: what is the point of AI video and how long can it continue?”

You know I think the Big AI Tech leadership are quite mature. For example, two responsible and mature adults wanted to fight. Sam and Elon (former best friends and business partners) are paying their lawyers to joust verbally in front of judges who have to decide which tech bro will prevail. The leadership of Google and Microsoft do side eyes to one another. The Anthropic person seems to be an “aggressive turn-lemons-into-marketing-lemonade type of person. But that’s just my opinion.

Like a teenager driving without an adult in the automobile, exciting things can happen. (Did you know BearBlog thinks our posts are crafted by AI and smart software? Trust me. Humans with a sense of humor write the blog essays. Did I just write that tech bros were juvenile? Is this an endemic problem?)
